  • A MEMBER SE shall be a Civil Engineer registered in the State of California with authority to use the title Structural Engineer.
  • A MEMBER SE may vote, hold office, serve as a director, committee chair or committee member within the Association and may serve as director, officer, committee chair or committee member of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC).

A MEMBER shall be one of the following: 

  • A Civil Engineer registered in the State of California regularly engaged in the practice of structural or related engineering
  • OR a person who holds a full-time teaching position in structural or civil engineering at a university or college
  • OR a person who has attained eminence in the field of engineering which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, qualifies the person for the grade of MEMBER.


A MEMBER shall have all of the rights, duties, benefits and privileges of a MEMBER SE except holding the office of President or Vice President or serving on the Board of Directors of SEAOC, and may not chair or be SEAONC delegate to a SEAOC Structural Standards committee except with the approval of the SEAOC Board of Directors.

  • An ASSOCIATE MEMBER shall be a structural, civil, or architectural engineering graduate who is not eligible for the grade of MEMBER or MEMBER SE.
  • An ASSOCIATE MEMBER shall have all of the rights, duties, benefits and privileges of a MEMBER SE and MEMBER except for voting or holding office.

  • An AFFILIATE MEMBER shall be a person in a field cooperating with and/or working closely with structural engineers in the advancement and practice of the technical aspects of structural engineering.
  • An AFFILIATE MEMBER shall have all of the rights, duties, benefits and privileges of a MEMBER except for voting, holding office, being a member of or serving as Chair of a SEAONC committee.

Industry
  • An INDUSTRY MEMBER shall be a person in an industry cooperating with structural engineers who does not qualify as an ASSOCIATE MEMBER, MEMBER or MEMBER SE.
  • An INDUSTRY MEMBER shall have all of the rights, duties, benefits and privileges of a MEMBER except for voting, holding office, being a member of or serving as Chair of a SEAONC committee.

  • A STUDENT MEMBER shall be an engineering student who is enrolled full time in an accredited engineering school, college or university.
  • A STUDENT MEMBER shall have all of the rights, duties, benefits and privileges of a MEMBER except for voting, holding office, being a member of or serving as Chair of a SEAONC committee.

  • A CORRESPONDING MEMBER shall be a person interested in supporting the goals and purposes of the Association who does not qualify for other membership grades or who does not reside in California.
  • A CORRESPONDING MEMBER shall have all of the rights, duties, benefits and privileges of a MEMBER except for voting holding office, being a member of or serving as Chair of a SEAONC committee.

Life Member
Life Member
  • A LIFE MEMBER shall be a MEMBER SE, MEMBER, AFFILIATE MEMBER, INDUSTRY MEMBER or CORRESPONDING MEMBER who is so designated by the Board of Directors.
  • A LIFE MEMBER shall have been a Member in good standing for 20 years and be retired from active practice. A LIFE MEMBER shall have the rights and privileges of the grade held at the time of being designated a LIFE MEMBER.

Fellows & Honorary Members
Fellows & Honorary Members
  • A FELLOW shall be a Member SE so designated by the Board of Directors in recognition of outstanding service to the Association and accomplishments in the field of structural engineering. S/he shall have been a member in good standing for 15 years. FELLOWS dues are equivalent to that of a MEMBER SE.
  • An HONORARY MEMBER shall be a person so designated by the Board of Directors in special recognition of the person’s contribution to the excellence of the structural engineering profession. An Honorary Member who is a Voting Member shall have the rights and privileges of the grade s/he holds. An Honorary Member who is not a Voting Member may not vote or hold office. Dues for Honorary Members are complimentary.

Fee Breakdown

Members of SEAONC are automatically affiliates of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA). A portion of your membership dues are transferred to the state association (SEAOC), a further portion of which is then allocated to the national association (NCSEA).

Please note that your Membership dues invoice will show the portion of dues that will be sent to SEAOC as an "additional fee". The total dues amount is inclusive of this amount. The total on your invoice should match the "TOTAL" listed above.  Please review your membership statement and reach out to membership@seaonc.org if there are any discrepancies.
