What We Do

Structural Engineering and More

Most SEAONC members practice structural engineering or an adjacent field. For nearly 100 years, SEAONC has aimed to advance the practice of structural engineering, build community among members, and educate the public regarding the structural engineering profession.

Where We Practice

Northern California & Beyond

While most SEAONC members are residents of Northern California, many hold licenses in other states. Much of our legislative work is focused in Northern California and the Bay Area, but our committees and Board members include delegates to state and national technical (code) and non-technical committees. With most of our work happening in earthquake country, much of our passion and projects emphasize seismic safety.

About Earthquakes

When We Started

SEAONC Began in 1930

Since 1930, SEAONC has brought together structural engineers and their colleagues in the AEC industry. In the decades that followed, the association has become one of the most active Structural Engineering Associations (SEAs) in the country.

Learn about our history on the Origin & History page. For more information about SEAONC’s history and its prominent people, events, and influences, visit the Hensolt Legacy (HSLC) website.

How We Do It

Partnerships & Initiatives

SEAONC is led by volunteer members who serve on the Board of Directors and Committees. Our growing membership consists of engineers and colleagues with different passions that result in a productive and active association. Our mix of technical and non-technical committees allow members to focus on everything from community outreach to seismology to disaster emergency services. We are  grateful to our amazing corporate members and partners who allow us to create our amazing programs and opportunities. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you.
